Same Sex Marriage

Same Sex Marriage & Homosexuality

The following article was written by Marilyn Warren and published in THE NEEPAWA BANNER in July of 2004.

First of all, I would like to say we are blessed in the Country of Canada where we are allowed freedom of speech.  The same sex marriage and homosexuality has been a hot issue in Canada over the past several years, and the more people speak out (or write) about it, the hotter the issue seems to become.

There have been many articles written from both sides of the debate.  I commend Mr. Ken Waddell, of THE NEEPAWA BANNER, because he is willing to be honest enough to publicly express his opinion, and the Biblical perspective, of homosexuality.  In addition to this, he continues to respect others and print many articles written by people who have totally different and opposing opinions.  Thank you to Ken for respecting each one of us and our right to freedom of speech.

Supposing we were to cast an opinion poll and the results were to be 100% in favor of homosexuality, would that make it right?  Or, if the results of the opinion poll were to be 100% against homosexuality, would that make it wrong?  No!  Why?  Because the bottom line is, we do not have the right, or the power, to make anything right or wrong in the eyes of God.  God has written his laws in the Holy Bible approximately 2000 years ago.  We can change man’s laws as often as we wish, but we cannot change God’s laws.  We can choose to honor God’s laws, or we can choose to discard them.  That is the choice He has given us.  But, we cannot change God or His laws.

So then the question is, “What is God’s righteous judgment concerning homosexuality?”

If you would like to know what God’s judgment is on this issue pick up your Bible, or borrow one, and check out the following scriptures.  Leviticus 18:22, Leviticus 20:13, Romans 1:18-32, and Jude 7. (Please note that these scriptures are both Old Testament [law] and New Testament [grace] scriptures).

After reading these scriptures you will have no doubt in your mind of God’s judgment on homosexuality.  He calls it perversion.  (This is God’s words, not mine).

On the other side, God writes:

You, therefore, have no excuse, you who pass judgment on someone else,
for at whatever point you judge the other, you are condemning yourself,
because you who pass judgment do the same things.
Romans 2:1 NIV

So what does this mean?  For me it means that I have no right to judge someone else regarding homosexuality, sexual immorality, or anything else for that matter.  So why do I speak up?  Why don’t I do the easy thing, and just be quiet?

Well, the answer is simple.  Because I believe with 100% conviction that:

All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching,
rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness,
so that the man of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.
2 Timothy 3:16-17 NIV

Having established this in my mind, it is in love (not in hate) that I warn those who are in sexual sin.  There is only one sin that God will not forgive.

I tell you the truth, all the sins and blasphemies of men will be forgiven them.
But whoever blasphemes against the Holy Spirit will never be forgiven;
he is guilty of an eternal sin."
Mark 3:28-29 NIV

God is willing to forgive all those who come to Him through His son Jesus for forgiveness of sins.

Salvation is found in no one else,
for there is no other name under heaven given to men
by which we must be saved."
Acts 4:12 NIV

However, for those who do not repent and turn from their sin, God’s judgment is very clear.  See Romans 2:1-16, Galatians 5:19-21, Colossians 3:5-6, 1 Thessalonians 4:2-8, Jude 5-7, and 2 Corinthians 5:10.

This article is not to convince you that I am right, but it is to give you the freedom to choose where you will spend eternity.  To give you the opportunity to hear the truth from God’s own words, not mine.

Just as man is destined to die once, and after that to face judgment,
so Christ was sacrificed once to take away the sins of many people;
and he will appear a second time, not to bear sin,
but to bring salvation to those who are waiting for him.
Hebrews 9:27-28 NIV

May we all turn away from our sins, and be among those who are waiting for the return of Jesus.
