God Cares!
The following article, “God Cares!” was written by Marilyn Warren and published in THE NEEPAWA BANNER in June or July of 2004. This article was in direct response to an article “Who Cares?” published in THE NEEPAWA BANNER June 19, 2004.
Its Your Choice
In the article "Who Cares?" it was stated: “...there are those who are against allowing same sex
couples to ‘marry’,
those who are for it, and those who really don’t care one
way or the other.”
This is so true! Whenever there is a topic of discussion, there will always be people with different views. Freedom of speech is an important right we have as Canadian citizens. It all comes down to everyone making their own choices in life. God gave us a will and He does not override our will. In His Word, The Holy Bible, He says:
See, I am setting before you today a
blessing and a curse —
the blessing if you obey the commands of the Lord your
God that I am giving you today;
the
curse if you disobey the commands of the Lord your God
and turn from the way
that I command you today
by following other gods, which you have not known.
Deuteronomy 11:26-28 NIV
This day I call
heaven and earth as witnesses against you
that I have set before you life and
death, blessings and curses.
Now choose life, so that you and your children may
live
and that you may love the Lord your God, listen to his voice, and hold
fast to him.
For the Lord is your life, and he will give you many years in the
land
he swore to give to your fathers, Abraham, Isaac and Jacob.
Deuteronomy
30:19-20 NIV
According to God's Word, what are the consequences of our choices? Those who choose to obey the commands of God receive blessings and life. Those who choose to disobey the commands of God receive curses and death.
Same Sex Relationships
It matters a great deal that same sex couples can now get married in Canada. Why? Because in the eyes of God same sex relationships are wrong. In fact, God gave us a whole chapter on the topic of “Unlawful Sexual Relations” in Leviticus Chapter 18! A small excerpt from this chapter is as follows:
"'Do
not lie with a man as one lies with a woman; that is detestable.
Leviticus 18:22 NIV
also in the Bible,
They exchanged the truth of God for a lie,
and worshiped and served created things rather than the Creator
— who is forever praised. Amen.
Because
of this, God gave them over to shameful lusts.
Even their women exchanged
natural relations for unnatural ones.
In
the same way the men also abandoned natural relations with women
and were
inflamed with lust for one another.
Men committed indecent acts with other men,
and received in themselves the due penalty for their perversion.
Romans 1:25-27
NIV
Same Sex Marriages
A man and a man, or a woman and a woman, may now marry according to the man made law in Canada. Will God bless this union? Where does that leave the same-sex couples? What about when they die? Where will their souls go? Will they go to heaven? Are they aware of the consequences of their choices? Have we informed them?
In the Bible it is written,
Do you not know that the wicked will
not inherit the kingdom of God?
Do not be deceived: Neither the sexually
immoral nor idolaters
nor adulterers nor male prostitutes
nor homosexual
offenders nor thieves
nor the greedy nor
drunkards
nor slanderers nor swindlers
will inherit the kingdom of God.
Corinthians 6:9-10 NIV
Marriage
A marriage, once called Holy Matrimony, is a man and a woman united in a Holy Covenant with one another in the sight of God. This union is blessed by God. Canada may change the laws of man, but Canada cannot change the laws of God.
A Worthless Piece of Paper
In the article "Who Cares?" it was stated: “It will make our world a better
place, a place where no one is
excluded, where all are equal, where everyone
can share in the same experiences . . . walking down the
aisle, exchanging
rings, saying “I do”, cutting the cake, having that first dance together. As someone once
said, a marriage license is
just a piece of paper anyways.”
For same sex marriages, that’s all a marriage license will be, a piece of paper. The marriage will just be a few memories and a piece of paper that will be totally worthless when they stand before the Lord on judgment day.
Reaping the Consequences – Trivial?
In the article "Who Cares?" it was stated: “It is unfortunate that we seem to waste so much energy when
it comes
to such things, trivialities really, when our thoughts, words and deeds could
be put to much more
productive efforts, such as trying to make our world a
better place.”
Actually, God makes it plain in His Word that we will reap the consequences of our choices”.
Do not be deceived: God cannot be mocked.
A man
reaps what he sows.
The one who sows to
please his sinful nature,
from that nature will reap destruction;
the one who
sows to please the Spirit,
from the Spirit will reap eternal life.
Galatians 6:7-8 NIV
According to God's Word, what are the
consequences?
Destruction or Eternal
Life
Trivial? I don’t think so!
There Will Be A Judgment Day
It is written in God’s Word:
Just as man is destined to die
once, and after that to face judgment,
so Christ was sacrificed once to take
away the sins of many people;
and he will appear a second time, not to bear
sin,
but to bring salvation to those who are waiting for him.
Hebrews 9:27-28 NIV
This will take place on
the day when God will judge
men's secrets through Jesus Christ, as my gospel
declares.
Romans 2:16 NIV
The World Will End
In the article "Who Cares?" it was stated: "The world as we know it will not end because of this
and no one will get hurt so what’s the difference?”
However it is this very sin, among many others, that caused God to destroy the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah, see Genesis Chapter 19:1-29. So, where does that leave Canada?
It is written in God’s Word:
But the day of the Lord will
come like a thief.
The heavens will disappear with a roar;
the elements will be
destroyed by fire,
and the earth and everything in it will be laid bare.
2 Peter 3:10 NIV
Jesus said:
Heaven and earth will pass
away,
but my words will never pass away.
Matthew 24:35 NIV
The Good News!
God Does Not Want Anyone to Perish
The
Lord is not slow in keeping his promise,
as some understand slowness.
He is
patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish,
but everyone to come to
repentance.
2 Peter 3:9 NIV
Repent and Be Saved
From that time on Jesus began to preach,
"Repent, for the kingdom
of heaven is near."
Matthew 4:17 NIV
That
if you confess with your mouth,
"Jesus is Lord,"
and believe in your
heart
that God raised him from the dead,
you will be saved.
For it is with your heart
that you believe and
are justified,
and it is with your mouth
that you confess and are saved.
Romans 10:9-10 NIV
Jesus said:
"If you love me,
you will obey what I command.
John 14:15 NIV
And it is written:
who are righteous in God's sight,
but it is those who obey the law
who will be declared righteous.
Romans 2:13 NIV
